When traveling, you have to be ready for things to change last minute for reasons you might not fully understand. On this particular day, I was supposed to explore the Sacred Valley. But with unhappy farmers not receiving the financial support they desire from the government, most activities for the day came to a halt. Luckily, horseback riding in the back country was an available backup plan and ended up being one of my most memorable experiences while in Peru. Visiting the Temple of the Moon and Sun by horse, stopping to play volleyball with some local kids and crawling through ancient Aztec temples connected the past and the present life of Peru in a very special way.
