Not Stuck in the Mud
Ollyantambo, Peru
Photographer: Morgan Weidinger

Sometimes when traveling, you are fortunate enough to meet someone who will bend over backwards to make sure you have an enjoyable time in their country. While in Peru, there was a strike. The farmers were upset with the government and in order to get their attention quickly, they hit them where it hurt: financially. This then impacted tourism in the area. As all of the buses were shut down and nobody was allowed to go anywhere, we were lucky enough to have a new friend who was determined to find a way.

Along the journey, taken in a friend’s car down an unmarked road in the rain and stopping frequently to move massive rocks out of the way, we were able to make our final destination. But while on that journey, I was able to see what the locals often see, like these little sheep questioning the jump before them. I feel thankful for this photograph as it is a reminder to keep moving, enjoy the journey and be thankful for that stranger-turned-friend along the way.
